Feb 11-Feb 15

 
This week, students will work on how to recognize plagiarism and how to avoid plagiarism. Monday and Tuesday students will write a short paragraph summarizing and paraphrasing what they read in their agenda. They will also work on their argumentive essay and follow the steps on the Argue Playlist.
Steps 6-15 are due this week. Students may also turn in late work to be graded, but it is their responsibility to email me to inform me that they are turning in late work. 

Jan 28- Feb 1

Welcome! Students took a vocabulary test on Jan 18 and Jan 25. Students can check their grades on Infinite Campus and also do a grade check in Google Classroom to see any missing work and various grade on assignments. 
This week students are learning how to spot fake news determine if the information presented on websites are credible. Below is what we will do for each day.
Monday: Set up a "Fake New Article" with a partner.
Tuesday: Continue writing the "Fake News Article " using three clues to help the reader know that the article is not reliable. 
Wednesday: Peer Review and Edit  Fake News
Thursday: Pick a research topic and work on research notes
Friday: Edmentum

Welcome Back! Below is the agenda for the week. 
Monday- Anticipation guide/thesis statement
Tuesday- Annotating  "Real-world writing"
Wednesday- Arguing without evidence
Thursday- Fiding Evidence 
Friday- Edmentum 

Dec. 10- Dec 14

  • Students may redo assignments to improve their grades. 
  • All late work and redos must be completed by December 12.
  • Students are working through Informational Playlist.
  • There is a semester exam study guide on the playlist to assist students with the semester exam.
  • Students will take the semester written exam on Thursday. They will have time to finish the written exam on Friday, Monday and Tuesday of next week. 

November 26-December 7

Students are working on a group informational essay presentation. This is the link to the Playlist with directions. 
 

October 29-November 2

This week students will develop the claim, cite, and explain evidence using the R.A.C.E. method to develop a constructed response.

Monday- Students will cite and explain the evidence

Tuesday- Students will cite and explain the evidence

Wednesday- Students will write the final copy of the constructed response that will count as an assessment grade.

Thursday-Test on R.A.C.E.S.

Friday-Edmentum

October 22- October 25

Monday: Students will view a Ted Talk and cite evidence from the talk. Students will draw on evidence to create a vision board.

Tuesday: Student will write a constructed response using the R.A.C.E.S. method.

Wednesday- Students will use transitions in constructed response and peer edit

Thursday- Edmentum and final draft of the constructed response

October 1-October 5

First quarter ends on October 12, 2018. Students can make up and redo any assignments until October 8, 2018. I am at school at 6:20 a.m. for any student who needs extra help. 
  This week, students will focus on filling out the expository template with the topics sentences, evidence, and explanation that answers the question "Why do people act heroically?" Students will also work on "claim" in Noredink. 
 

Sep. 24- 28

 

Students will

  • Read and annotate “Woman Who Helped Anne Frank dies at 100” and “How Jackie Robinson Changed Baseball”
  • Fill out expository essay template based on the reading
  • Take a test on parallel structure, vocabulary, and “The Underground Railroad” on Wednesday
  • Work on Edmentum

Sep. 17- Sep. 21

This week, students will rotate through four stations. 
This is a link to what students are doing at each station.
Students will spend a day at each station. 
 

Sep. 10-14

Monday: Editing and revising for correct use of grammar and communication skills

Tuesday: Follow rules for discussions by annotating text and responding in a substantive way
