Shading
To practice different ways of Chiaroscuro technique
we shaded the negative space of a simple three-letters word. The words (positive space) are in white, while the background (negative space) is shaded with different colors and technique. We practiced the CROSSHATCHING, the SCUMBLING, with random marks, and the HATCHING, obtained by pressing harder to give a darker appearance. This exercise was tried in a previous post with pencil, but this time we added colors. The different ways for shading are drawn both with pencil and colored pencils.

In order to “write” the words we used masking tape on the drawing paper and after drawing we removed gently the tape.
