Perspective Unit description:
In this Unit, the students will engage in the process of drawing a perspective to accurately render space on a two-dimensional plane.
Students will create a visual illusion of one of these: shapes/forms, or a room or a letter of the alphabet or a cityscape by using the characteristics and expressive features of art in perspective drawings. The unit culminates in the creation of an individual artwork of an imaginary contest. Students will analyze and repeat their project and be able to repeat the components and terminology of the project.
This unit relies on mathematical thinking and terminology. Additional guidance may be needed for students to understand how to apply the rules of perspective. Artists use colors and techniques accurately render space on a two-dimensional plane to create a visual illusion. Artists compose the characteristics and expressive features of art in perspective drawings to engage a viewer to consider an understanding of perceived place.
Performance assessment.
Summative assessment of this Unit:
Claims: Generalization to be mastered and demonstrated through the capstone assessment.
Artists use tools, formulas and coloring techniques to accurately render space on a two-dimensional plane to create a visual illusion.
Stimulus Material: an Engaging scenario that includes goal/outcome and explicitly connects the key generalization. Student creates One point perspective room practicing all the three projects on the exercise sheet. Then they will choose one for the final. Drawing of a perspective of boxes, room, letters, or cityscape. The final drawing should be a full rendering of a 3-dimensional object on a two-dimensional plane including color and value.
Product/Evidence: Expected product from students: Students will choose a surrealistic set to create the perspective drawing. to create their cityscape. Students will accurately portray the cityscape in their chosen perspective using
Student understanding of 1 point perspective with the ability to plan and develop a drawing with objects using given parameters, the rationale for the choice of media and perspective choices.
Differentiation: Multiple modes of student expression. Students may employ varied choices of final such as 1-point with different subjects perspective. Options regarding choice of material/medium (pencil, colored pencil, pen, marker, oil pastel, pastels, charcoal)
