Week 2/6/23 - 2/10/23

The other half of students met Holocaust survivor, Ben Lesser. Students wrote thank you notes to Ben Lesser for "visiting" our classes. Students reviewed and took an assessment on the Holocaust. Students  received information about the genocides of the 20th -21st centuries. Students  received directions for the Genocide presentation.

Week 1/30/23 - 2/3/23

Students had an opportunity to explore one of the many Holocaust books in the classroom. Students listened to Holocaust survivor, Ben Lesser, talk about his experiences during the war. Students were able to have a question/answer session with Ben Lesser.

Week 1/24/23 - 1/27/13

This was a short week because of Staff Development Day. We completed the Holocaust lecture. Students learned about justice. Students watched Holocaust video clips. Students received directions for the Holocaust assignment. Students listened to an allegory of the Holocaust, answered questions and participated in a class discussion.

Week 1/17/23 - 1/20/23

This was a short week because of MLK Jr.'s birthday. Students continued with the Holocaust lecture. Students learned about The Final Solution, liberation, the resistance, and the reaction of the world. Students filled in tickets-out-the-door. 

Week 1/9/13 - 1/13/23

We continued with the Holocaust lecture. We learned about the beginnings of WWII, Poland and the ghettos, the invasion of Russia, and the concentration camps. Students filled out tickets-out-the-door . They filled out 4 tickets-out-the-door. Students received permission slips to watch movie clips pertaining to the Holocaust.

Week 1/3/23 - 1/6/23

Students worked on their portfolios. Students began the Genocide Unit with the Holocaust. Students received an outline that they need to fill in during the Holocaust lecture. Students learned about the rise of Hitler and the Nazis. They learned about the persecution of the German Jews before WWII started. Students received tickets-in-the-door to reinforce their learning. The first ticket in the door had students list 3 events that led to the rise of Hitler and the Nazis. The second ticket in the door asked students to list 3 ways that the Nazis persecuted the German Jews.
