Week 12/12/22 - 12/16/22

Students debated whether the U.S. is the best country to live in. They also took an assessment on the Early Modern Period of World History. They studied the 4 packets of primary sources. Finally, students had time to work on their portfolios. They needed to bring their page protectors. 

Week 12/5/22 - 12/9/22

Students learned about the Islamic Empires during the 15th and 16th centuries. In groups of four, students analyzed a primary source and then taught each other about what they've read. Students also had their debate arguments checked on whether or not the U.S. is the best country to live in. Students had an opportunity to meet with their teams and discuss strategy for the upcoming debate. Finally, students learned about the Chinese and Russian empires. 

Week 11/28/22 - 12/2/22

We went over the reasons why the Spanish and Portuguese explored new worlds and expanded their empires. Students analyzed primary sources to understand the motivation and obstacles of Western European countries' exploration and expansion. Students used a jigsaw method to analyze a specific source and taught it to other members of their group. Students continued to learn and discuss current events.

Week 11/21/22 - 11/22/22

Students learned about how the Spanish and Portuguese explored the world and expanded their empires. Students analyzed primary sources to compare and contrast the different approaches of exploration and expansion of Spain and Portugal. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Week 11/14/22 - 11/18/22

Students took an assessment on population, population pyramids, the demographic transition model and the human development index. Students  also began to learn about the Reconquista and the Iberian Peninsula. Students  continued with current events. 

Week 11/7/22 - 11/10/22

This was a 3 day week. Students learned about the HDI (Human Development Index) and completed an activity where they compared/contrasted  3 different countries at different levels of development. Students reviewed for the upcoming test next week on population, population pyramids, the demographic transition model and the human development index. Students played a Kahoot to have further review.

Week 10-31-22 - 11-4-22

Students completed a political and physical map of North America. Students worked on a population pyramid activity where they were required to create several population pyramids based on specific data. They then analyzed those pyramids and made conclusions based on the data/pyramids. Finally, students learned about the HDI (Human Development Index) and completed an activity where they compared/contrasted  3 different countries at different levels of development.

Week 10-24-22 - 10-27-22

This week was a short week because of Nevada Day. Students learned about population, population pyramids, and the demographic transition model. Students learned about how the world population is distributed, and where and why it's growing in certain regions. Students followed a Powerpoint and watched several videos pertaining to this topic.

Week 10-17-22 - 10-21-22

Students finished up their culture projects. Students peer assessed each other's culture projects. Students continued with current events. Students  learned about the American "Culture." Students learned about the Nacirema.

Week 10-10-22 - 10-14-22

Students finished learning about political and economic systems. Students completed an activity to reinforce that learning. Students reviewed for the assessment on the different world political and economic systems. Students worked on their culture projects. Students took an assessment on world political and economic systems. Students took the PSATs.

Week 10-3-22 - 10-7-22

Students continued to learn about world political and economic systems. Students had time to work on their debate arguments. Students had their arguments checked. Students debated the issue of whether or not the U.S. needs stricter gun control laws. 

Week 9/26/22 - 9/30/22

Students worked on their gun control debate arguments. Students also worked on their culture project which includes creating a culture based on the location of their country. They researched the region in which the country is located; climate zones, ecosystems, vegetation regions, crops, and natural resources. They then created a map of their country . They created both a shelter and clothing for their country. They described the country's political and economic systems.

Week 9/19/22 - 9/23/22

Students continued with current events. Students took a quiz on maps and the Five Themes of Geography. Students received the directions for the gun control debate. Students learned about the different political and economic systems of the world. Students completed the Five Theme Circle.

Week 9/13/22 - 9/16/22

Students watched a documentary about 9/11. Students received the directions for the Five Theme Circle. Students peer edited and revised each other's essays on "Who's had a Great Impact on Whom; Earth on Humans or Humans on Earth?" Students took a quiz on the Geography terms. Students voted on the best island project.
