Mrs. Michelle Brown

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! My name is Michelle Brown, and I am so excited to be teaching 6th grade English Language Arts this year at Hyde Park Middle School. This will be my 20th year of teaching and my 8th year at HPMS. Throughout my years in education, I have had the honor of teaching 2nd through 10th grades, but I have really found my calling here in 6th grade.

In 2003, I earned my bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Las Vegas, Nevada. Four years later, I earned my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Nova Southeastern University. I currently have an endorsement to teach gifted and talented education, and I am a National Board Certified Teacher as of December 2020.

I enjoy teaching sixth grade ELA immensely. If you are in my class this year, you can look forward to reading lots of wonderful novels and short stories in a variety of genres, including nonfiction, literature, dramas, and poetry. you will learn how to analyze literature of diverse themes, types of conflict, structure, figurative language, author's purpose, style, and points of view. In English, we will focus on grammar, spelling, punctuation, objective and formal writing, MLA guidelines, and the five paragraph essay. You will also be writing a fictional narrative. We have lots to do, and I can't wait to get started!

My email address is [email protected]. This is the easiest and most efficient means of communication for me. I look forward to meeting you and to having a fun and successful school year!
