Taylor go ahead and talk about his his part first and that way I can maybe work on my microphone again if you haven't muted yourself please make sure you meet yourself mr. Taylor are you ready for some reason my camera is not working but I am here I will be talk to you from Mary. Are Chromebooks I will be time activities are music programs Locker clean-out when's the last year as well as any general questions I see on the chat I'm really a lot of the extracurricular things that were going to let you know that I'm I do want to start over there, but deployment we are Chromebooks over the last two days and we've already 275 devices for 67th graders we will continue our Chromebook appointments tomorrow from 7:30 to 11:30 as well as next Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday from 7:30 to 11:30 in our bus parking lot so if you indicated you had a need for a company that you are Hyde Park survey or through the survey the CCSD put out please be sure, on those days and we will get you a device that you have it for your students with distance education coming up we are going to offer Dino allowed to question revolve that we're sending around electives we have planned for Ledges I noticed the rescue we'll talk about the schedule little more detail we do have all of our electric we have previously we will have our music programs of Fire guitar and Orchestra we also have a music appreciation class this year so if you're scheduled at any bar music classes that have an instrument will emergency nurse Mary kids hands we do have instruments available but we are going to run out of those so are music teachers will be providing opportunities for rentals for people that can't afford that as well as passing out the instruments they have on hand here at school and that information will be given to the studio I'm doing the first week of school from each of our musical presenter so mr. Tyler Miss Paulsen and mr. Miller will share that exactly with how it's going to pertain to the program why would you ever by snow that was another question Miss Morris robotics courses we artist you're not going to have her hands on her body's here but she has been a lot of work over the summer on Virtual classes what's going to happen with the virtualbox is there a lot of programming there's ducks virtual robotics will still be allowed within the robotics field and then we're hoping it will get to come back on campus and January that are kids that are in a virus or January semester will be able to go Hands-On in robotics and start building those robots once again activities are teachers are working towards doing virtual clubs they will take place after the school hours and so are school hours is 38 to 3 like they were and then those clubs will run virtually through Google needs a want to do classroom were those kids to come together and still talk about with a Rubik's cube without child support drama any of those countries had those teachers are still looking forward to doing those cups to give that added feeling that they are on campus and be able to park those extracurricular sports are on hold we have no Sports until spring semester same as the high schools and will have more information on that from the governor as well as the state and the district as we move towards that the last name of the Cha-Cha publishing our locker clean-out schedule for last year and not only protects those kids that have been notified previously that had walk with you and I will be sending that information out as we get towards the end of this week and it's next Tuesday Wednesday Thursday please be sure the best when you can support your kids and to be involved and know it is follow our school website I post a lot of information that actually created underneath our academic history tablets is distant 20/20 so please bookmark that site we've already posted a lot of information there and I will put that in the chat with soon as I'm done but it talks about the difference between synchronous and asynchronous learning it has links for faces universe towards Chromebook distribution or Chromebook information for Internet Resources inside can it really one-stop-shop that you guys's parents can use to see what's happening and how to best support your kids through this distance education and I will put that in the chat 2 minutes cuz you don't have anything else you'd like me to talk about are some people that are questioning date they need to return textbooks they now need a Chromebook can you talk about those two topics next week Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday 7:30 to 11:30 I'm in the back parking lot which is the North End of campus right off of Fulton over by the tennis courts even if you've not done a survey come through as long as you guys have the student ID in your part of my Park we will be able to check you out a Chromebook it'll be yours until we return from distant education at the same time we will take library books textbooks Galveston that was 1/8 winner last year and left we can take their Chromebook back as well at that time we've also be able to do switch it between up and then and they have the device but you're at 6 greater we can transfer that device to them just email me my emails on the website I was happy just to contact I get all of those emails as well so I don't do that I didn't know you sent any internet-based a laptop or PC that's what you're good at what you don't want to try and do distance education on the phone so if you're trying to do this on my cell phone that's going to be the way you'll be most successful mr. Taylor sorry did you did you talk about PE lockers probably later today or probably tomorrow the schedule will go out to the parents and students that were in PE last year as opposed to send it out of school wide one that's currently message you get for me if you didn't have a kitten Pee Dee Chromebooks we have some available it doesn't have to be a Chromebook what we would prefer for you to have a laptop or desktop or whatnot that preferably has a webcam like we we have right here and just like you said you really cannot do your distance it is not going to work for you all library books all textbooks will be returned at 7:30 to 10:30 tomorrow I'm sorry tomorrow 7:30 to 11:30 next week Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday and we will be able to go inside those most at that time any any chance plus any library books okay I'm trying to answer the chat as we were going along so if I didn't get to your question that hopefully we will answer it when we're going or try to you know keep putting in another chat if if we don't answer it I missed a nice yesterday was neuston what documentation do you need your student's name and student ID to pick up the Chromebook just two names 290 and is preferable if they know their student email address their first name. Ccsd.net that email address will assist us and getting them the right device Ed Asner apps that are needed pretty much everything will be off on the canvas LMS and Google Classroom which comes within our G suite for education are there was a couple of people that said that they don't have a student ID has there ever been in the Park County School District in any school they will have an idea we have that on file we can look that up for them and if they're brand new to Clark County School District 2 Hyde Park we will then be able to look up that information and I will taking care of when you come to pick up a Chromebook tomorrow so I'll be out there in a big floppy hat if your new brand new to CCSD you don't have an ID like mrs. Just let me know I'll look it up and we'll be able to give you that nation and write it down on the table she have it in the future I think somebody had a question I don't know if mr. After I mute myself at least for the first semester there's no need to have that because we are in campus all of the other electives we have the only other elected that we will not be offering other than that as we won't be offering cafeteria worker cuz obviously don't have a working cafeteria and we will not have World Language right now it's a high school credit course if you really want to take World Language you will need to contact your counselor and we will work out a strategy you can pay for that yourself and take that in addition to your other four classes through nvla so okay I want to go ahead and turn it over to mr. Jacobs I am here I go to afternoon everybody on Play Everybody's air condition right now cuz it's worn out I'm going to talk a little bit about Chromebooks first of all some of the question hi I see you down me at Chapel right now are about goguardian every Chromebook that a student has has software called goguardian on it this is a monitoring software it blocks websites that are not necessary for students to learn I'd also notify staff if there are any concerning searches that happened in the search engine I'm so every device is installed with that so just now when you log into your Chromebook as if listen out there it's it's a district device there for the district is going to keep an eye on what's going on and making sure that you're using it for educational purposes one of us students in the last is asked for me I just one I question all address that specifically we cannot disable goguardian unfortunately if you're trying to access something and it's blocked we can work around that you just need to communicate with your teacher to say why you need that. for your educational purposes and if it's determined that. Successful all weekend update the settings of goguardian primarily during the distance education portion of the school year which we really hope is what are rather than longer canvas and Google Classroom will be the primary learning platforms utilized here at Hyde Park we're really pushing canvas that's what we're going to be asking our teacher is the focus on but we will be spring Google Classroom as needed depending on what construction is being delivered canvas is considered a learning management system it's kind of scary of course I'm not going to ride there's a lot of buttons lot of things to quit a lot of wormholes you can kind of crawling through when you're first looking at it but I promise you it's very simple to utilize especially for students and parents everything is clearly outline everything kind of displays it for you very easily navigate for the kids teachers and are going to be working the first week or so helping kids get used to cannabis it's somewhat intuitive and our instruction protocols built into canvas and that help you navigate to be honest appearances you probably all agree we're not worried about the kids navigating through cannabis they'll figure it out pretty quick it's it's the parents will worry about that may or may not be able to navigate our yet another computer software we got covered their family and Community engagement Services District department has put together quite a few instruction on videos which we have posted on the website under the academic staff dirty in there you can get all the information on how I'm out on me you can drink and have access to your students course work so you can see what's going on see you still see what the calendar looks like for the upcoming assignments all of that along with support for how to support your kid during distance learning it's very new coronavirus it's blue for the kids it's new for the search for the administrators I've got a 7th grader at home that I am married to a teacher so I am seeing all ends of what we're trying to figure out and I can tell you that the videos that face eyes put out that way again at link to our website very helpful and I would encourage you to check out the website under the academic stop once again to check out those videos I can't stress that enough more knowledge is better I'm weird question about live instruction and how that's going to happen from what I can tell the bulk of the face-to-face meeting the digital minis are going to take place in a platform just like you see here Google meet is what's being utilized which is great because inevitably once we work out the Kinks work on I'm in a few other things we can record these sessions so right now we're recording this session for the people who can't get into meeting we're going to be able to Alice that for everybody so if for some reason let's just say someone wasn't feeling well that day couldn't get to the computer to CD the last 15 chills going to be recording. Lassen and it's got to be posted in canvas later that day and same thing with you meaning to read you the lesson it's almost better than life instruction because I don't know about you all but when I sit in any sort class I can I take about 60% of the information and then sometimes I start thinking about what we said and then I miss something else important now we can go back and re-watch so if we needed to think about something we can look at it again parents finite another benefit of it I'm not going to self box too much longer on it but there are a lot of benefits such as what what did your teacher say I know how to ask that question before the my kids what did you call the number I don't know if I knew what you were right now well play it back get that instruction so parents I know we have a very dedicated parents especially in this room right now with great opportunities sports for kids that way with those recordings once we get the system in place it's going to be an A+ kids having trouble with canvas if they're having issues with the assignment we still have an email everybody has their email address you can email your teacher say hi I'm trying to do this assignment I didn't quite figure it out or I got kicked out of canvas or just not sure where it's located at communications going to be there all day or are teachers almost there directly and Stryker stock mcscuse me directly Trucking that's it they're going to be on any mail there going to be able to respond very accessible and if for some reason you can't get a hold of a teacher because live instruction taking place that's where I step and that's where Miss not a rescue stats and I mr. Taylor Snapchat Miss belnap we're all here to support to make sure that we can make this challenging time less challenging and more supportive for your family I know I'll open houses a little different this year I'm just throwing up are you playing if I talk about open house just give me a thumbs up cool thank you we can't obviously meet face-to-face and one of the most exciting times of the year for the just for the students as you get older it it's less exciting for the students I know it's open house what's your teacher look like on a nice on a frenemy on a funny funny looking the process of creating videos from all of your teachers that will want to be posting those on a tab on the website and whenever virtual open house is it is not ideal it it's not ideal there are some perks that come with us because people work many of you have jobs and if we stayed open house it is certain time at 5 and you work you missed out here you get to see you at least a little bit about the teacher so you can kind of get an idea of what they're about how to reach them we have all your emails these videos were trying to make the most of what we have with the situation we've been that way but it's it's really kind of fun to see the teachers in their video they're not us. Nervous because they're on camera but it's a different feel from the teachers and I think you're going to really enjoy how to approach that we taking towards open house I know I'll be coming next week and we'll have more information posted as well I'm in Edition a lot of questions are coming up about how am I going to get my kid into canvas I have no idea I know I think it's going to no I need to get in it we're going to be sending out instructional procedures early on next week on step-by-step what you need to do to get your kid on campus so they don't miss that first day of school so we got you covered their parents again will have the rain Studio teacher webpages as well if you're struggling we have it all broken down the website's going to be very important to initially get in contact with the classes if you can't follow the step-by-step it's I want a question that I'm going to talk about and then I'm going to ask me a microphone owner casting go look a little different this year State why we are still testing to be great we don't know right now what the expectation is for s packs that hasn't been stated to us clearly yet I anticipate and I hope that we are back in time and then that will be able to conduct business as usual. Hyde Park I do know that the map testing is going to take place early on in the first month of school we are reducing it in the district to just mathematics and Ela and it's gone didn't have to be down at home we can't bring kids in here to test but it's all online based I'm so kids I'm sorry I'm the one that asked me to tell you I'm going to give you a test right off the fat but it's good because art I need to know exactly where everybody is when they come in especially in those critical classes of mathematics and English language arts we want to know just how the shutdown affect with your education back in March see what gaps may have occurred we want to address that with this not test right away so that way your teachers can plan accordingly to see what additional spiraling needs to be done in instruction to make sure that we are creating the best possible for your students I'm so I'm I hate testing I hate over testing people but in this case it's critical that way we can get the information we need to give you guys the best possible situation Miss Belknap were there any questions you wanted me to address I was really trying to focus on not stuttering so if there was anything you'd like me to address please let me know if not I'm going to I thank you guys for taking the time it's nice to see there's nothing good on TV right now right and thank you what about canvas at this point teachers are learning as we speak that's why we pushed the start date back for students to August 24th because the teachers need to learn they need to have professional development and that's what they are really working on right now is it canvas you will get more information on canvas from us there was some links in the chat I would encourage you to go back to the chat I'll say it again you will not be receiving your schedules until next Thursday via Infinite Campus we're going to get into that and I know let's Novrozsky's going to talk a little bit about the schedule so I did try to answer some of the questions in the chat I know mr. Taylor and mr. Jacobs doing that as well with some of the stuff we are going to be talking about Infinite Campus where you go it's called Campus Portal it's where you go when you check your grades where you go when you could see your you know your attendance that's the main platform that the school has always used for the school district have been using for the last couple of years so that's where you'll be able to log on with your active directory or you're out of your Campus Portal and you'll be able to see your assignments printing things at home typically work will be done digitally through a platform of maybe it'll be a Google form and maybe it'll be a Khan Academy it'll be something that they physically do on the computer there may be a time where they me to print something or what not but I think that that will be few and far between we again we are going to try to have clubs and activities like science just are not sure what that's going to look like we do not know when we will be back in school physically it's at all the school year we take our direction from the governor and from the CDC the Clark County School District looks so we have no idea there's a possibility that we could come back for second semester Edward for more that parents will still have the opportunity of the option to keep their kids at home honestly we really have no idea what it's going to look like we just know that for right now for the immediate future we will be completely online morning and and students will not be in our building right now we are going to have electives with schedule stuff like that I'm going to be talked about and then I'm going to go ahead and pipe in and a little bit more by the Bell schedule when you come to school and how that looks I'm going to talk about that as well but it's also posted on our website so right now I'm going to go ahead and turn it over to miss the little bit about the schedule hi everyone this year obviously it's going to be a lot different but the first semester of school you will have four classes and next semester after winter break whether were face to face tour another four classes about you may have your electives the first semester start at the second semester but everybody will have the math class everybody will have science class in English class 7th or 8th grade you may have a reading class that backs up with English eighth-graders do not see if you are in a cat credit class algebra geometry create like the create the algebra pre-ap geometry biology beginning of school now in August you're going to have those classes a year-long if you have if you are in a Zone student and you have mass six you also will have mass on your schedule the first semester it will same at 6 in a second semester it might have enrichment but you will still have the same teacher that you had the first semester and you will be doing other you'll still be doing math but you might be doing other activities or what or what have you counselors are still working on schedules said they're not going to be available until next Thursday for all for all students will be able to get your schedule on infinite next week you're going to have teachers that are going to start calling all students every student has built into their schedule what is called a mentorship class is mentorship class to check in on you as a student to see how you were doing teachers might ask you a couple questions know how how you're feeling now things are going to have an issue titled mentorship and they're going to start calling next week just to make sure they have a number to get in touch with you if you have a computer if you're able to have the internet what we can do to help you so start looking out for that phone call next week from your mentorship your mentorship teacher may not be you haven't. 1 2 3 or 4 he totally somebody somebody totally different but again you will have four classes pleasure mentorship class that you will have for a few Min every every day that your schedule would have I missed you I think you're good I was trying to work with the cat but I will go into the there are many questions about it again just to reiterate what you've got a recipe said is if you can see me I'm going to try to use my fingers to demonstrate and in the past students at Hyde Park Middle School regard or anywhere between 6 and 7 classes tore this school year you will have eight classes everybody will have eight classes each one of those classes is considered to be a year-long however you will get four of them and four of them the second and Science Academy so you will have my year-long which in essence becomes 2 years of math that gives us lots of opportunities for kiddos so if you are a kid oh that is my 6 and you do poorly in the first semester that gives us an opportunity the second semester give you math 6th again to repeat that to make sure you get the credit for it also gives us the opportunity if you are at 6 the first can you do super well maybe we put you in math 7 the second semester so then hopefully when we're back in session in the next school year that you could take pre-algebra as a 7th grader and then be on track to take algebra as an eighth grader don't have that that Latitude with high school credit courses so if a child is taking algebra as a 7th grader that has a year-long course that we talked about so it's not like you can take algebra semester it doesn't work like that high school credit classes are that way if you take however if you are taking pre-algebra as a 7th grader and you do super well in this would be a case-by-case basis that we might be able to figure out a way to get you into algebra second semester so you might be ready for geometry as an 8th grader so we are working independently with students who were at that level if you have eight classes a map of the year long so that gives you classes lap if you are in the academy Sciences a year-long class it's important that are Math and Science Academy students are here from extended math and science or you're going to get sign for your long as well but I'll give you four classes left if you are a 6 or 7th grader you're going to have English and reading if you are an 8th grader you're going to have English and and social studies so that's another year if you are a 6th grader doesn't have PE and computer and an elective if you are a 7th grader you're going to have an elective and social studies if you are an 8th grader you're going to have PE and health everybody gets one electric that's the difference between this this year and in the years past we've had more flexibility the problem becomes is our schedule gets more difficult when we offer High School Credit courses that are basically two years long when I talking about World Language to take that out and many kids want to take World Language and weave in the past not had a language teacher so we've offered that through Envy as a virtual lab and put that in a child sketch and I pretty much did an online course here in the building Virtual Lab outside of these other classes that I spoke about they would contact their counselor and they would basically an Essence take a v they would pay for that on their own and they would go through nvla we just don't have a virtual Labs here for that you will get your schedules through Infinite Campus next week 5 Thursday will pop up you'll be able to log on and I've missed not a recipe said you may you may have social studies of your 7th or 8th grader you may have social studies semester 1 you may not you may not get that until semester 2 everybody will have a math class everybody in the academy will have a science class for sure semester 1 some some of our other students will have you tonight you might have your elective semester 1 and you might have your PE and how you're an 8th grader semester 2 but you will have each one of those semester classes is a year long so you have to remember you get eight classes many of you pumped about some electives if you request an elective like traffic student aides or that the Virtual Lab for World Language then hopefully you put down a second elective choice and we were able to put you into that if not when you get your schedule next Thursday and you did not get the electives you really wanted please understand it's an electric so many people didn't get their elective till semester to that's just the way things work out but you could always email your counselor and see if there's a possibility but there's no guarantee content area classes which are the most important as mr. Taylor had said earlier we still have all of our Performing Arts we still have robotics we've added coating this year we have other electives we have added a fund of passive reading and writing for all of our at grade level and below grade level to make sure that you are getting some additional help with those classes so we've we've been pretty flexible we have had we had some teachers leaving to go to other classes I mean other schools or retire always had a new teachers, and so that I can Hyde Park is pretty traditional we have a lot of the same teacher so I am going to present right now and show you the bell schedule in this is link to our website you can actually see it on the website but it is the bell schedule for students because I know that many of you were wondering like you or not we do not expect students sit in front of a computer all day long that would that would give them that would give them the cheek it would give you a we don't expect the teachers to that we don't expect we don't expect students to do that there it is broken up and it's and it's kind of like a block schedule so I'm going to pull it up and then again this is on our website it'll be easier for you to see it if you look at our website right now you can see that and you can see the student instructional guide for students with the week-long they will have time where they will have real-time lessons which week you've heard the word synchronous or lie or real-time that's when a teacher is sitting in front of the students like this face to face so to speak physically you know obviously not physical that face-to-face and they are teaching their lesson they may have a whiteboard they may present something and make it up and and be in their classrooms for teachers are allowed to come to the school so are they will be teaching these are the lessons that will be recorded so that if a child happens to be absent or whatnot or not able to be in that live session they will be able to click on the cheapest canvas page find a recording and have it play back or parents for instance would be able to come home and they were going to try to help their child with homework they didn't really understand they would also be able to click on that link view that video and watch it to be able to further assist group work is built in here as well so what I would it says your real-time lesson it every week there will be a hundred and twenty minutes per course the restaurant will have a live less those are attendance and I want to be very clear this is a new normal for us but this is not like 4th quarter was last year 4th quarter last year since we talked on the social well-being of our students but we did not offer any new instruction we did not take grates there was no fourth quarter that is not the way we are going to be doing business we are going to be in new information they will have tests they will have quizzes they will have homework and assignments required that will be submitted via canvas and other platforms so it will be required attendance will be taken a teacher May assign on some of these group work days they may assign just group work for five or six kids at a certain time in that. And those kids will be required to log in attendance will be taken and the teacher can work looking at me with those five five or six kids either on enrichment activities or on remediation needed for their help there is time in the schedule that is built in for independent work for students to work independently there is time in the schedule for Virtual Office hours so if I am a student and I am struggling in one of my classes I can very clearly see when I might be able to reach out to the teacher to email them and to get additional one-on-one assistance which then the teacher can then either make a Google meet and they can they can work one-on-one virtually like this or maybe they can handle it they can handle it via email or something like that there will be Wellness checks that each week every student and will be contacted by a teacher that is their mentorship class just to check in with that make sure that they're doing okay make sure that they have everything that they need if they are struggling inside passing and we need to refer them to our social worker or counselor or mediate with a teacher and that's fine too but that we will make sure that they get the assistance they need so if we if we go down a little bit you can see also start school at 8:50 in the morning between 8 and 9:40 every single morning Monday through Thursday they will have student independent work time that their attendance will be taken that's when they will be that we call that synchronous learning they will be working on their own they may be working on their homework they may be doing whatever they need to be doing but that that's time for them to work on their own 9:40 is when they start their first class Mondays and Wednesdays Mondays and Wednesdays look exactly the same and Tuesdays and Thursdays look exactly the same still on Monday and Wednesday they will have the real-time instruction with their teacher for forget their first and further third. On Monday Wednesday and you can see the times from 9:40 to 10:40 for first. And down here from 12:40 to 1:44 3rd. Tuesday they will have. To end. For and that will be Tuesday and Thursday so that the schedule is so on Monday they will meet with their teacher from 9:40 to 10:40 for first. Second. They they don't we welcome to be in front of the computer cost on so now if they need to reach out to their second. Teacher or maybe their second. Teacher had some group work or whatnot they would do that for they have independent on our second. Class or whatever other class that they 11:40 to 12:10 is a built-in lunch for all staff and students 12:10 to 12:40 students will continue to work independently and they will expect a call from their teachers one day during the week to check in with them then they will have their third and their fourth. And you can see that the schedule is repeated Friday is a little bit different of a schedule again from 8:50 to 9:40 they will have their independent work time and then on Friday they will see all of their. Teachers. 1 2 3 and 4 for a truncated time for in over 25 minutes or so and that is the time that the teachers will probably be doing some sort of an assessment will probably you don't have a quick maybe it'll be formative or maybe it'll be maybe it'll count but that's when they will meet with all of their teacher so if you can see in the schedule if they have an hour you know every other day for their class plus 5 minutes there's actually built in 145 minutes of live learning for their week for each. Then which is is about 2 hours a day except for on Friday then there's lunch built in there and then the students Friday afternoon from 12:10 to 3:01 that's when they would have their independent work time that's where you know they could reach out for the counselors if they could reach out to their teachers they can email they would be working on all of their all of their assignments or whatever they needed to be working again this bell schedule is just like this on the website mr.
