Physical Education Course Expecations

It's important to get a little bit of exercise on a daily basis. Government standards say that we should all get at least 60 minutes of exercise per day. 
 
Hey Panthers. Be prepared. Show Leadership.
*Buying a P.E. uniform ASAP (mandatory for 6th and 7th graders.)
10 dollars for shirt
10 dollars for shorts.
*Buying a lock for your personal locker is MANDATORY, for theft prevention.

First week of school is orientation.

Second week of school.
-starting Phys.Ed. program

-Physical Training
-Warm Up exercises and drills

NOTE!! Make sure you are drinking water and eating healthy. Nutrition is critical for maximum energy during classroom instruction and exercise. If you show up without eating, you will feel weak, sick, and dizzy after warm up exercises.

COURSE DESCRIPTION and GOALS
This course focuses on the physical, mental, social, and emotional development of student by means of participation in a variety of physical activities. The class will provide the student with experiences in basic movement, individual and team sports, and recreational activities while emphasizing self-discipline.
Upon completion of this course, the students will have a better understanding of: 1. The concepts involved in physical fitness, individual/team sports, and recreational activities. 2. The development of respect for others, both in being responsible and cooperative in all activities.
 
TARDY POLICY
After tardy bell, students will have 5 minutes to get dressed and out in their squads for attendance. This is a total of 10 minutes from the previous class ending time. Once roll call has started, students coming in late will be marked tardy.
NOTE!!!…It is the student’s responsibility to check in with teacher, so as not to be marked absent.
 
CLASSROOM BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS
1. Dress out and participate on a daily basis. Students with written note from parent may be excused.
2. Demonstrate respect for equipment
3. Demonstrate sportsmanlike behavior towards teammates, opponents, and the teacher.
4. Demonstrate proper behavior in locker room (no horseplay, food, loud behavior, or fighting).
5. Show up to class on time. Students tardy are penalized, and will receive half credit. Tardies will be reported to the dean’s office.
6. Students should use RESTROOM when they enter locker room prior to outdoor warm-up exercises.
 
CITIZENSHIP and DISCIPLINE POLICY
Each student enters each quarter with an “O” (Outstanding) in
citizenship. Students who require more than a warning to correct their behavior will earn an “S”(Satisfactory). Frequent offenders or students receiving referrals to the dean will earn a “U” (Unsatisfactory). Appropriate behavior will result in verbal or written praise, positive parent contacts, or special privileges.
Severe class disruption (fighting, insubordination) will result in immediate removal from class and Dean’s Referral. No Exceptions!
All other violations will follow the PROGRESSIVE DISCIPLINE REFERRALS below:
1. Warning: Teacher /Student conference
2. Phone call home
3. Detention OR In House Suspension
4. Parent Conference
 
BULLYING
1. Under NRS 388.122, “bullying” means written, verbal or electronic expressions or physical acts or gestures, or any combination thereof, that are directed at a person or group of persons, or a single severe and willful act or expression that is directed at a person or group of persons, and:
a. Have the effect of:

(1) Physically harming a person or damaging the property of a person; or
(2) Placing a person in reasonable fear of physical harm to the person or damage to the property of the person; or
b. Interfere with the rights of a person by:
(1) Creating an intimidating or hostile educational environment for the person; or
(2) Substantially interfering with the academic performance of a student or the ability of the person to participate in or benefit from services, activities or privileges provided by a school;

MATERIALS
Each student is required to dress out on a daily basis for full credit. The Hyde Park P.E. uniform is required, so regular school clothes are not damaged. The uniform consists of Hyde Park T-Shirt and shorts, white socks(preferred) and gym shoes. Points will be deducted if uniform is not worn.

HIGH PRIORITY OBJECTIVES:
1. To develop confidence and a positive self-image through participation in physical activity.
2. To demonstrate sportsmanship, teamwork, integrity, and positive attitudes in game situations.
3. To acquire motor skills resulting in efficient use of the body and serving as a basis for present and future participation in lifetime recreational activities.
4. To learn to incorporate physical fitness into daily activities outside of school.
 
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
All students involved in copying, plagiarizing, or cheating of any kind will receive a zero on any assignment given. In addition, students may face additional consequences based on the severity of the incident.
 
EVALUATION AND GRADING SYSTEM:
Student evaluation will be based on four criteria, and based on a 6 point grading system (6 pts/day).
40% = Required Dress
40% = Daily Participation in activities
10% = Skills Tests (The Mile, Fitness Tests)
10% = Written Tests

Points are averaged into grade daily. Grades will be posted online weekly.
A=90-100, B=80-89, C=70-79, D=60-69, F=59 and below.

ASSIGNMENTS, HOMEWORK, and ABSENCE POLICY:
Homework will include getting the P.E. uniform cleaned each week, completing written assignments, retaining handouts. All points lost on student’s daily participation grade may be given the opportunity for makeup by completing a short writing assignment obtained from the teacher. Makeup assignment is the student’s responsibility; daily participation that is not made up will result in a zero for the day missed. Absences due to school sponsored activities or religious holidays do not need to be made up.
 
THEFT PREVENTION
Students are strongly encouraged to leave all valuables at home. Each student is assigned a locker during PE class. Students are required to bring their own lock to avoid theft. Students are also urged not to share their locker combinations with other students.
